Ion Heliade Radulescu’s funerary monument

This is the Neo-Romanian style (mature phase) funerary monument of Ion Heliade Radulescu (1802 – 1872), placed in 1913 over his grave, in the courtyard of Mavrogheni church, Bucharest. Ion Heliade Radulescu has been one of the main promoters of Romanian national culture in the period of the 1848 revolutions in Europe; he was instrumental in the switch of the script in which the Romanian language was rendered from Cyrillic to Latin.
