Art Nouveau Project

Art Nouveau style house renovation -restoration project. Popa Soare area, Bucharest (©Valentin Mandache)

The image above shows one of the most exquisite Art Nouveau houses in Bucharest, undergoing a thorough specialist renovation and also restoration. I took the photograph six weeks ago and is a sort of witness/ development watch of this project’s progress, since in February 2009 I wrote a very popular blog article about it entitled ‘Art Nouveau Restoration Project in Bucharest‘ (click link for access). It is obviously a very expensive enterprise in a city where builders’ prices are on a par with those found in London. The progress of this project seems to have been quite slow since February, also probably because of the onset of a very serious financial and economic crisis in Romania. In the following months I intend to post some more updates about this iconic project for Romania’s capital city and its period property market.

I endeavor through this daily image series to inspire appreciation of the historic houses of Romania, a virtually undiscovered, but fascinating chapter of European architectural heritage.
